Apprenti banquier venu d'Allemagne, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler trouve sa véritable vocation en 1907, quand il ouvre une petite galerie de peinture à Paris. Il sera le plus ardent propagandiste des cubistes. "Ses" peintres s'appellent Picasso, Braque, Gris, Léger, de Vlaminck, Derain, Masson... De lui comme de nul autre, on a pu dire qu'il était "l'homme de l'art".
